Welcome to the first installment of my newsletter. There will be a lot of variety in what I send with all types of artwork and writing. I thought a few of my collages would be a good starting point.
This piece is titled Nature vs. the Machine. When I had a studio at San Fransisco’s Hunters Point Shipyards, I madly collected magazine images that I turned into collages. Because of my work in graphics, I became an expert with an x-acto knife and glue. This image illustrates our current dilemma as humans and how we impact our planet. The piece was scanned into a photo editing program to give a painterly look.
The title is Corporate Bird Brains. After I made this collage, I scanned it into a photo editing program to give a watercolor effect to go with the birds’ watery desktop.
The title is Butterfly Time. It represents the continuity of nature as humans progress through time and effect our planet.
This collage is titled The Overpass. By scanning the images into a photo editing program, I was able to manipulate and warp the city with its traffic. The looming parking meter represents the insinuation of urban sprawl into the countryside.
This collage is titled The Second Stripe. Keeping up appearances in society is passed down through generations of business men.
Inspired by the previous collage, I used ink and watercolor on paper to make this piece. It’s titled The First Stripe.
Instead of images of Ancient Horses on cave walls, I envisioned them running free in the countryside at sunset.
